Bike Wheels

Find the Right Gravel, Mountain or Road Bike Wheels for Your Cycling Style

The bike wheels are the first point of contact with the ground. Through them, you are provided with the traction needed to move forward, and they absorb your weight while transmitting any lumps and bumps through the cycle and onto you.

Fife Cycle offers a unmatched range of high-quality bike wheels – so let's look at the options and how each wheel can benefit your bike:

  • Quick-release wheels: this features a lever mechanism to easily remove and install the wheel without using tools. The Bontrager Approved TLR Quick Release is a good example of this. It is commonly used with modern road bike wheels and some mountain bike wheels.
  • Road bike wheels: their narrow rims and tyres make them lightweight and aerodynamic. They are designed for speed and efficiency on paved roads.
  • Gravel bike wheels: these bikes are designed for mixed terrain. They accommodate wider tyres than a road bike for greater comfort and control.
  • Mountain bike wheels: these wheels are usually wide and knobbly to absorb the off the road impacts better. The Trek Sun Rims Mulefut is a great example for this.
  • E-bike wheels: these wheels are designed to support your weight along with with the additional weight of an electric motor and battery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Measure the diameter of the wheel from edge to edge, excluding the tyre. Here at Fife Cycles, we stock a wide range of sizes to fit all types of bike, so once you know your size, finding the ideal fit is simple.

Using a spoke wrench, tighten the spokes on the opposite side of the bend and loosen the spokes on the side of the bend in small, half-turn increments. Use your brake pads or a zip tie attached to the frame as a guide to check the wheel is straight while you turn it, repeating the adjustment process until it spins true.

If the buckle is poor or you are unsure, contact someone from our team at Fife Cycles, and we can help you out.
